Our Baby Giraffe on Wheels

I’m still patting myself on the back for this one – in early May, we bought Finn roller blades.

I know… how totally stealth of us!

How is getting your kid roller blades sneaky, you ask?

Finn is having issues with his on-ice skating form, and can lean toward lazy when not properly motivated. The roller blades, disguised as fun and new and exciting, are helping him work on his form and endurance in preparation for hockey season.

The best part? He doesn’t even realize it!

The not-so-good part is that Bronwyn is a firm believer in EVERYTHING FAIR:
Findley stays up late ergo Bronwyn stays up late;
Findley gets dessert ergo Bronwyn gets dessert;
Findley gets roller blades ergo Bronwyn gets roller blades.

Can’t argue with six-year-old logic.

However, mommy logic is a bit different: roller blades are not cheap, and Bronwyn’s attention span is not very long. You see my dilemma.

Bronwyn’s logic won in this case, with a bit of compromise. After spending an entire day going from shop to shop looking for reasonably-priced roller blades, we found the last pair on a dusty shelf at a Toys R Us in Pickering.

She was digging into the box before we could pull out of the parking lot.
Those blades got constant action for about a week. Bronwyn had plans to skate to school, to the grocery store, anywhere we went. We have made it around the block a handful of times and the blades are now resting on the front porch, collecting dust, desperately waiting to be taken for a roll.
They may not get as much action as they first did, but they are adjustable and will last a couple of years. And she looks like the cutest baby giraffe as she rolls up and down the sidewalk!
Maybe they weren’t the best investment, but they sure are entertaining.
