The Hockey Report – Volume 1

The games have officially begun. We spent an hour and a half on the 401 crossing the city to get to our first Select hockey game last night, only to spend 60 minutes on the rink. But what an action-packed 60 minutes it was!

Ivar _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push([‘_setAccount’, ‘UA-22845532-1’]); _gaq.push([‘_trackPageview’]); (function() { var ga = document.createElement(‘script’); ga.type = ‘text/javascript’; ga.async = true; ga.src = (‘https:’ == document.location.protocol ? ‘https://ssl’ : ‘http://www’) + ‘.google-analytics.com/ga.js’; var s = document.getElementsByTagName(‘script’)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })();
I brought the camera thinking I’d have plenty of opportunity to capture the game, but was so busy cheering and yelling and banging the glass, I barely had a chance to use it! In all the rush to get going, I also forgot my bell – I had to make up for it by yelling even harder – if that was possible.

Dean was very nervous getting ready. He wanted to be sure the kids had a good first experience and didn’t want them discouraged by a loss. His concern was for nothing. After only one practice, the kids really came together. They came onto the ice screaming and didn’t stop until the game was done. They lined up properly, listened to their coach and really challenged for the puck.

We won the game 7 – 2. I was proud of all the boys, but especially my little Finn. He jumped onto the ice on his first shift, stole the puck, and flew up the ice to score the first goal of the season. The crowd went wild. Then he did it again! I don’t think his feet touched the ground the rest of the night. And I’m sure everyone at school got the play-by-play today.

There will be no stopping him now…

This was the best I could get. Finn is the little guy in white – the one in focus.

While Finn was getting ready for  hockey, Bronwyn helped out with some yard work.
