Not Even for Connie Stevens

On Monday night, while most concerned parents were negotiating the pre-first-day-of-school dance – myself included – Dean slipped off to work. I knew earlier in the week that he had a function, and had resigned myself to getting the kids settled on my own. And, if Dean had his way, it would have been a much easier time for me – he had planned to take Finn along with him. To a gala dinner.

Ovar _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push([‘_setAccount’, ‘UA-22845532-1’]); _gaq.push([‘_trackPageview’]); (function() { var ga = document.createElement(‘script’); ga.type = ‘text/javascript’; ga.async = true; ga.src = (‘https:’ == document.location.protocol ? ‘https://ssl’ : ‘http://www’) + ‘.google-analytics.com/ga.js’; var s = document.getElementsByTagName(‘script’)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })();
You see, it was the Italian Walk of Fame dinner and they were honoring some big names in the Canadian-Italian community.

First he hit me with Roberto Luongo. As much as Finn would have flipped to meet his favorite player, I saw Tuesday morning, sleeping late, angry teacher, embarrassed mother and said, quite firmly NO. Not even for the Stanley Cup champion.

Ovar _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push([‘_setAccount’, ‘UA-22845532-1’]); _gaq.push([‘_trackPageview’]); (function() { var ga = document.createElement(‘script’); ga.type = ‘text/javascript’; ga.async = true; ga.src = (‘https:’ == document.location.protocol ? ‘https://ssl’ : ‘http://www’) + ‘.google-analytics.com/ga.js’; var s = document.getElementsByTagName(‘script’)[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(ga, s); })();
Then he brought out the big guns. A true legend of stage and screen. A lady who has played opposite Miss Piggy. Miss… Connie… Stevens… (say it as Kermit would on the Muppet Show – I’ve seen the episode more times that I’d care to admit). Finn would have had a riot with Connie! Imagine the stories she could tell about Fozzy and Dr. Teeth. And Finn could probably recite, word for word, the entire episode she stared in.

Again, tempting as it sounded, I held my ground and put the little animal to bed early and the lucky little guy woke up to a new autograph on his Canucks ball cap.
